Towson’s Rally Against Crime Sends Strong Message

Hundreds of people are expected to attend Towson’s Rally Against Crime on June 19th to send the strong message that Crime is Not Welcome in Towson. Students, residents, senior citizens, families, elected officials and business leaders will gather in downtown Towson to show their support for the Towson Area Citizens On Patrol’s (TACOP) Rally Against Crime. Working in partnership with the Baltimore County Police, TACOP volunteers patrol the streets of downtown Towson and 25 local neighborhoods, monitor criminal activity and call 911 to report any suspected crimes they see while on patrol.

TACOP’s annual Rally will be held on Friday, June 19, 6:00 to 6:30 PM on Allegheny Avenue between Washington Ave and the Roundabout.  Towson Chamber of Commerce’s popular Friday night “Feet on the Street” block party will follow. Attendees are urged to bring their own chairs. In the event of rain, the location of the Rally will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church located at 120 Allegheny Avenue.

Highlights of the 15th Rally Against Crime ceremony include a Boy Scouts of America Color Guard and the singing of the national anthem, brief remarks by Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and Police Chief James Johnson and awards recognizing TACOP unsung heroes for their significant contributions to make Towson a safer place.

Honorees include: Jen Spry, Activist Combating Human Trafficking; Chief of Towson University Police Bernie Gerst and staff; Greater Baltimore Medical Center’s President John B. Chessare and Domestic Violence Program staff, Former Baltimore County Police Colonel Kim Ward and, posthumously, William Toohey, former County Police Spokesperson.

Families are encouraged to bring their children to the Rally to enjoy activities like climbing on the Providence Volunteer Fire Department fire truck, sitting in a police car and getting inside of a race car donated by Brooks Huff Tire & Auto Centers.   Captain Dee-Fense will also put in a special appearance at the Rally.
